Clinical Research

Cabarrus Eye Center has partnered with Piedmont Ear, Nose and Throat Associates, PA (PENTA Research) to conduct clinical research in ophthalmology. Our goal is to advance health care and provide novel therapies for our patients by conducting clinical research trials.

The relationship between Cabarrus Eye Center and PENTA Research

Dr. David Harper’s brother, Dr. Andrew Harper, conducts clinical research in ear, nose and throat disorders in Winston-Salem. After discussions with his brother, Dr. David Harper and his colleagues at Cabarrus Eye Center decided they also wanted to support the advancement of health care by conducting clinical trials in ophthalmology. Thus, a partnership between Cabarrus Eye Center and Piedmont Ear, Nose and Throat Associates, PA was created.

Information for our Volunteers

Volunteer participation in clinical studies is essential to the successful development of new and better medications. All studies are overseen by an experienced research physician who monitors you throughout your participation in the trial and every trial in the US requires approval and monitoring by an Institutional Review Board. If you are eligible for a trial you may receive study exams and study medications at no charge to you. You are not required to have health insurance to participate. You may also be compensated for your time and travel. Our patients come first and our research staff and physicians are here for you if you have any questions or concerns.
